How has College policy changed in response to coronavirus?

Churchill College has made several significant changes to College policy in response to coronavirus.

It is important to be aware of these changes and to follow the rules that are now in place.

Walking around College

There is a one-way system around College, which is indicated by floor markings.

Students must maintain a 2m distance from others when walking around the site.

Guest policy

Students living in College are not allowed to have any guests in their accommodation until further notice, with the exception of students in self-contained flats.

Since the 14th of September, no more than six people have been allowed to meet in a group. While some College households have fewer than six people, the College decided it was unfair to allow some students guests based on allocated households.

Students in self-contained flats are allowed visitors, as long as there are fewer than six people in the flat at one time.

The College strongly recommends that students meet with friends outside of accommodation, using the communal spaces in College or outside in the weather protected areas.

This policy will remain in place for at least the first two weeks of Michaelmas term, or until Government guidance changes at which time the College will review the policy.

Hall and catering

The Hall is open daily between 11:30am and 8:00pm. Students must book a meal slot in advance and must book no later than 9:00am on the day of dining. Meal slots are limited to 30 minutes.

Slots are booked by emailing catering. Students should receive a confirmation email with the time of their meal slot.

If students wish to sit with others in their household, they must specify this in the email. Students must sit at least 2m away from anyone not in their household.

Students can buy takeaway meals at the Buttery. The Buttery is open 8:00am till 10:00pm Monday to Friday, and from 2:00pm until 10:00pm at the weekend.

The College will run a small shop, open for residents only. The shop will sell fruit and vegetables, bakery goods and a selection of grocery goods. The shop will open between 2:00pm and 10:00pm, seven days a week.

There will be no formal halls in Michaelmas term.

Housekeeping

The housekeeping team is not entering student residences. Students are expected to clean and maintain their accommodation using the College-provided cleaning supplies.

Students should create a cleaning rota to clean the shared spaces, including the kitchen and bathrooms. If households cannot create a cleaning rota, they should contact the housekeeping team.

Fire safety

On hearing the fire alarm, students should vacate in the usual manner and can disregard the one-way College system.

On arriving at the meeting point, students must maintain a 2m distance from anyone not in their household.

Collection of belongings from previous accommodation

Students must book an appointment to collect belongings from their previous accommodation. To book an appointment, students should send an email to [email protected].

Porter’s Lodge

Students are advised to limit their visits to the Porters’ Lodge, where possible.
